Sefer Ha-Bloggadah: week 13

This is it: after almost three months, this is the week we finish the Torah! (Why does the story of Eldad and Medad, found in Numbers 11, appear here, rather than sometime early last week? I haven't read the aggadot yet, so I don't know the answer.) But we're not going to loop back around to the beginning; rather, we'll continue with the book of Joshua (covering it in just one weekend) and beyond. The section on Moses's death is taken up mostly by one very long (and famous) aggadah; rather than split it up, the schedule puts it all on one day (Thursday), and to compensate, the other days have less than usual. So feel free to spread out your own reading more equitably over the course of the week.

  • Monday - 1:5:121-126 (Israel's Provisioning in the Wilderness; The End of the Forty Years in the Wilderness)
  • Tuesday - 1:5:127-133 (The Prophecy of Moses; Eldad and Medad)
  • Wednesday - 1:5:134-136 (Moses and Joshua)
  • Thursday - 1:5:137 (The Death of Moses)
  • Friday - 1:5:138-142 (The Death of Moses; Moses' Burial Place)
  • Saturday/Sunday - 1:6:1-12 (The Chosen Land; Joshua)

So now we know -- it's connected to Moses's powers of prophecy, and to Moses's death. Convincing? The jury is out.
